An Update

Many weeks have passed since my last entry.  Since then I went to Toronto to consult with a "dating service".  I also went to Charleston, SC.  Both places are very nice.

Toronto is the kind of city I would like to live in if it wasn't for the snow.

Now I am in hell: Baton Rougue, LA.  The hotel is disgusting and the city in general isn't much better. The hotel has a sign informing guests that pets are not allowed in the dinning area. I have a feeling there's a reason they had to put up a sign.

My first full day here was awful.  After I left the client site, I spent about 4 hours throwing up.  I ended up pulling a muscle in my back. I was feeling awful.

The client I’m working with is part of a state agency.  Their offices are a filthy as my hotel.  My contact is a volunteer firefighter.  I don't know what it is about the south but volunteer fighter fighters are the biggest self aggrandizing group you'll ever meet.  How do you know you've met a volunteer firefighter in the south?  Wait 5 seconds and they'll tell you.  They will tell you how important they are, how they are up for the chief's job, how sometimes they get deputized and get to carry guns, and so on.

One of their greatest pleasures in life is turning on their blue lights and watching cars move out of the way.  This guy actually said "I guess I need to get blue lights on all my cars because people don't move out of the way fast enough when I have my hazard lights on when I’m in my wife's car.

He gets calls 20 a day from his fire buddies and he gets off work early so he can sleep at the firehouse.  I've been told by other fighter fighters (the noble, modest, brave kind) that there's a name for this type of guy: "a wacker".  I learn something new every day.

On night before the last day of the engagement I told him I would come in very early because we had a lot to do.  The next morning I sat in the lobby for more than 30 minutes and waited another 90 minutes inside the office for him to show up.
