It's been a fun 24 hours

I had to work late last night on a team project and ended up leaving work about 7:40 last night.  I got to my bus stop and waited for about an hour before I decided to take whatever bus would get me across the bridge.  I figured I would at least be able to walk at that point.  I waited another 20-30 minutes for the bus and decided it probably wasn't coming.  I ended up walking for 30-45 minutes through snow at a fast pace.  No one shovels, so you're literally sloshing through the snow on what you believe is the sidewalk at that point.  Eventually, my bus showed and I took it the rest of the way.  My legs are killing me today and I'm pretty tired.

I'm back at work today and it was much easier coming in.  Around 70 buses were stranded yesterday all over town.  Today everything seemed to be running at a decent pace.  I had the same driver as yesterday and he said it took a few hours to untangle the bus and the armored car.  The armored car had a few good dents in it and the mirror ripped off in the process.

And my bus...

The bus decided to slide into the side of an armored car this morning.  It busted out a few windows.  I decided that was a good time to get off the bus.  I had to walk about 15 blocks to make it the rest of the way to work.  It was fun.

Oh snow

I woke up this morning to find it had snowed fairly heavily this
morning. Everything is covered and the city is going to be a mess all
day. I'm on the bus right now and traffic is basicly not moving.

I'm in training all week and I have a formal dinner on Friday night.
I have a working dinner tonight and a bunch of other after work
activies. This week is going to be Hellish.

A Treo of Resets

I’m not much of a gadget hater, but Palm is trying to turn me into one.  I’ve had my Treo 650 for 15 months and the thing decided to reset itself to the factory default for the third time.  The random software reboots are bad enough, it will just reboot for no reason randomly a few times a week, even in the middle of a call, but to totally lose your settings every few months is simply infuriating.

I talked to the IT department about it.  They say it’s a known hardware issue with the Treo 650s that is not worth fixing and will get progressively worse over time.  So they’ll be hooking me up with a Blackberry soon.  I loved the Blackberry, so here’s hoping it’s a better fit.

Fulfilling Resolution Number One

So resolution number one is to update my blog more frequently.  I’ve been very bad about keeping things up to date.

The first day of the New Year was interesting.  To celebrate we drove over to the Sonic in Hillsboro, about 10-15 miles out, to get Sonic Drive thru.  To the uninitiated, Sonic is designed like an old time car hop restaurant.  You order on a speaker and they bring your food out to your car.  They have all kinds of fast food, tasty drinks and deserts.

Moving to Portland, OR I’ve had to give up on certain food.  Good Tex-Mex, Chick-Fil-A and, until recently, Sonic is not available.  They opened one just a few months ago and it’s been packed for weeks.  It’s the only one in the entire state.

I have to say I enjoyed it a great deal.  I got two Jr. Burgers, a grilled cheese, tater-tots with cheese and a vanilla Dr. Pepper.  It was glorious indeed.  My oldest daughter was pretty stoked.  Sonic was her favorite place to eat as a little girl.  She told me to “give her five”.  This is her new means of celebration.  I said it in jest to her and she’s adopted it as a pet phrase.

Yesterday also marked the first day of my cutting and new exercise plan.  I spent Oct-Dec bulking, and while I didn’t make all the gains I hoped, it’s time to get off some of the fat.  I’d actually like to see the abs I’m working on.  I’m shooting for about 2700 calories a day.  I’m adding cardio to the mix and adding a few additional days of rest between weight lifting sessions.  I think I was overtraining a bit in the fall.

I’m back at work today and totally not ready for it.  I could have easily used another few days.  I’m working closely with sales these days, so the end of the quarter and end of the year are a busy time.  It sounds like we made our departmental goal and possibly our best case estimate goal.  I hope this is reflected in my review next week.  This is my first review after a year and a half working at this job. Granted, I’ve bounced through three departments over that time because of reorganizations.
